Today I am writing about life that brings all of us a series of happiness. We often see our parents, teachers, colleagues, and friends get trapped in life and struggle to get out of the rat race. When this happened to me, I was confused, struggling to discover my purpose in life. Everything around me in life to call it quits and I am not capable of doing something that helps myself and others to discover their true potential.
To prove this point, someone who was the dearest to me said these words, “You are incapable of doing anything in life and at the time of your death you will be surrounded by scavengers, not with people.” — These words bugged me a lot even today I feel down when I remember this. When I was told, my position was entitled to pain and diseases. My mind tried to cheer me up and eventually I had to cut the wound it formed in my heart to get out of life I was in and the people around me. Its been one year since the day I decided to change my life in ways that nobody could ever imagine. I am selective in trusting people so I don’t have a huge circle of people to share my thoughts with. Now, my circle is growing bigger as I am in the pursuit of creating the best of the best. The best of people are not selected by their current situations, The best in one comes from the heart and the potential he/she has in life to do things differently. I call my team as The Next Team.
To unlock happiness in life or to get out of the rat race in life, I have listed 13 changes we can make in our life to increase our value and develop traits that we never imagined we could have. There are 1000s of steps in life and books are available to instruct us on how to build our lives for the better. I believe that when we start to do things we are supposed to do in a way we love, everything in this world seems to be good and kind to us.
Here are the 13 steps/traits I found useful while reading the book ‘Who Will Cry When You Die?’ by Robin S Sharma,
- Develop an Honest Philosophy: Always be honest to yourself no matter what. Every time you feel something is not right, think of doing it right. The first step to being honest to yourself starts with your conscience.
- Model a Child/Think like a Child: When was the last time you went out on the streets and bought an ice-cream to eat or you asked someone for a gift? Be like a child wherever it is necessary. Take time out of your daily life, and try to be like a child just for 5 mins a day and see what difference it brings to your life.
- Wake up early: Early to bed and early to rise, when you help yourself to start your day earlier than you ever was starting, gives you more time for yourself to learn new things. Try drinking a glass of water before sleep, it will wake you up early automatically. Tune your subconscious mind as you can do this. Just break the shackles.
- Spend a day without looking at the time: Don’t monitor everything in life. Sometimes, unmonitored tasks are the ones that give you immense pleasure and zero pressure. When you do this more often, your mind will become free and start giving a solution to the most difficult of problems.
- Carry a book with you: These days, we don’t find many people who want to share knowledge unless it is work or profession. So, keep a book with you always and start glancing at the book whenever you get free time. A new word you learn, you start seeing your growth in your life.
- Have your physiological role models: There may be a god or the person or the group of imaginary people who you want to share your pain and happiness with. Create a group in your mind, whenever you feel like sharing or you need help with it… in life to move forward, talk to those people consider them as your ideal friends. Share, talk, enjoy with them.
- Surround yourself with a positive environment or with people: When we are happy, we find the people who are happy and start being with them. The same applies to us when we are sad. So, create an environment where there are people who can cheer you up when you or sad or you do the same for them. Don’t dwell in the past or hang on to the events that made your life miserable. Find people who find ways to be happy and influence you by keeping you happy.
- Listen to Music Daily: I found the best possible tracks in my Spotify and I created a playlist of my top 100. This is how I listen to music every day and I am fond of it. I start my day with some beautiful songs from artists like Westlife, Backstreet Boys, and to end my day I listen to my top playlist. You can visit my Spotify profile here.
- Think about how you want your funeral to be: Start your day as if it were your last. Begin from the end and visualize who you want to be and how you want to be remembered in life at the time you live and after your death. This mindset is very powerful and will become a motivation to start your day. It comes from the visualization technique to begin from the end. Take a breath and imagine you in the places you thought you will never be.
- Become the CEO of your life: This step is simple but yet the most effective. Take control of your life and life will thank you. As John Dryden says, “We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” Control your emotions, thoughts, skills, and flow in your heart. You are the sole guide of your soul to take it to its destiny. Manage your life as a business where you have to sometimes make critical decisions to avoid bankruptcy. While in making decisions, you should never leave your mission statement of life along with its vision and culture.
- Rewrite your life story: As a man you are in your heart and thought, you will be anywhere you go. Try writing your story in your mind and imagine the best possible version of yourself. Understand life as the way it is and the road you took from the past which will guide you on what to do in the future. Don’t cage yourself by reliving the past. Just write it and move forward to the path you always wanted to go to.
- Plant a tree: Did you think what you want to leave for your future generation, what would be the biggest gift you can give? There is a reason why our elders insist us to plant a tree, it is a symbol of our legacy. When we give birth to another life, half of our life’s purpose is fulfilled. The other half lies in how we help that life to grow the person or entity to be good and contribute toward humanity and its growth. So, plant a tree and watch it grow. You will get the shear satisfaction possible.
Conclusion:
The final step to improve our life is quite simple and easy. I don’t say what you need to do once you start adopting the above steps in your life.
13. Live life happily and die happily: Don’t regret your life on your deathbed that you haven’t lived your life as you wanted to be. Commemorate your life and realize how big your life was and be grateful for whom you had and the time you got to spend with them. Never take your life where you regret not having done this. Always be an asset for humanity rather than a thorn in it.
Happy living and be the mark upon to the brightest places of your life. Please let me know if you have anything to say to me. Also published on linkedin.com
