How I felt on the day when I traveled to another state as the first day of my professional life

It has been a wonderful time in my life. Starting to play it with goodness and riches of my mind. After everything that has been happened in my life, I want to share some of my stories that led me to understand life and improve as a better person.

This article is about the first day of the experience I had at my work. The first company that I worked as a Technical Support Engineer at Convergys for Microsoft process. This was the first time I had a real job in my hands after my own company failed to grow because of the bad choices we have made.

I never wanted to join for a job that needs 9 hours of our day and at the end of the month, we would be waiting for the salary. Sometimes life forces us to live life like that to teach us something about the world we are living in. I went on to start a company before my graduation got completed, and worked as an adult when there was a time I could live life to its fullest in my student career. This is where I committed the first mistake and later without any industry experience, I dive into the ocean of entrepreneurship without a lifeboat.

Working as an employee to any employer helps you to build industry experience and this aids any young entrepreneurs in decision making in own venture and also about their career.

Working under a person is not as bad you think. When I joined Convergys, the first day was about anxiety and fear about how the culture would be and what am I gonna do with their style. At the induction, people started to scare us with all the protocols to follow and a zero-tolerance policy. I was wondering how am I going to follow those rules as I never had any interest in them. At that time I had no choice but accepting whatever the rules they imposed, to follow. I started following it with some scare and also tried being responsible.

At the end of induction, there comes our communication trainer to pour water on the burning fire. He was so short that I had to bow completely to see him. I’m 6.2ft and he may be around 4.5ft or 5ft. He started his intro session and he felt scary as well. He was being so strict as I thought myself that it is difficult for me to survive here even for a week.

I came back home after work, it was almost night and we were instructed to join the training from the next day for evening shift i.e. 5:30 PM to 3:00 AM.

The second day was impressive for me. When we all sat in the training hall, our communication trainer took the class and he was so friendly that to this day even after me leaving the company after two months, he is my life trainer and my mentor.

The biggest takeaway from this job I had, was not to judge at the first shot. If I had stereotyping myself with their words as they are strict and I’m gonna quit, I never would have met the person I admire the most. He is so awesome that positivity travel around him. Whenever I need a suggestion, I go and ask him and in an instant, it makes me free from sadness.

The first day again

I restarted my job after leaving my first company for good. This time, I got an upgrade as a software engineer. To get this job, I worked continuously for 3 months to learn about Dynatrace. As I did a few tasks, fortunately, I got my first project which I needed to go out of state. With all the determination, I chose to go with this path in life where I clearly understood the things happening in my life. I paused my hunt for success and concentrated toward learning and getting experience by understanding the world I live in.

When I went to the place of our customer, on the first day — I was broke and lacked confidence. My heart was beating fast. It was the first time I ever went out of my hometown. I was wearing Formals that made me sweat till my shirt was soaking with it. The weather of the place was so horrible for me that it made me completely uncomfortable. Whatever, I had to deal with that situation to understand the world and how it works. My role was there as a Consultant is not so small one.

My voice was low at that time, legs were shaking because the people we were talking to are brilliant with their skills and they knew in and out of our tool and I was just a fresher to that tool.

As time started to progress, I started to be more comfortable and less dominated by the people around me. As my cool nature took the charge, I started to slowly understand what is going on in our sales and services team. Now, I can call myself an unconventional individual in our team. When I got there on the team, there were only 5 to 6 members. But now, we have grown to 20. No matter how huge the team becomes, the first day at work and the experience that I had is quite memorable. I just feel to start over that day again and again because the people who were there with me are not there now.

Remember, the first day at the office is always one of the best memorable days in your life. We often consider ourselves as experts in something but this day teaches us how to be good learners. No matter how good you are technically or you have plenty of experience, the culture differs from one to another. Some companies are versatile, some are loaded with protocols. It will only make sense when we use our inner strength to the fullest to learn whatever we can.

Workplace is the school of professionals where we see about life that has communication, people and thoughts which roams around your mind. Every company has its own brilliance that needs to be explored, treated and learned — create a success story and be in touch with people you admire the most.
